Introduction

Choosing Your Materials

Step-by-step Tutorial

  • 25
Cut the cloth that lies on the base with a 45° square and remove the excess. (If you don’t remove this, you’ll have a ridge underneath your base covering material.
  • 26
Fill in with the appropriately thick paper or card for the cloth (in this case the predetermined single-ply Bristol).
  • 27
I don’t fill in when using thin cloth. I like a slight inward pull in the tray, so that the final box has a slight inward camber. Thick cloth requires that the bottom of the base is also filled in.
  • 28
Mark your second tray as you did your first but minus the interior pads of Suedel and the fourth wall.
  • 29
Add twice the thickness of the outside tray’s interior cloth for the vertical measurement and one cloth thickness for the horizontal dimension.
  • 30
Then add 0.5mm to each side for ease of opening. (Use a 0.5mm pencil and cut to the outside of the line.) Glue up and cover as you did the interior tray.
